New State Policy Impacts School Calendars

A new state policy gives county school systems in West Virginia more control over their school calendars. The policy approved this week by the West Virginia Board of Education provides two options for making up canceled school days. County boards can use either available non-instructional days or an out-of-calendar day. The Department of Education says in a news release that the change will allow county school boards to avoid using a particular non-instructional day to make a canceled school day. The new policy also allows year-round school calendars at the option of local districts.
