Passing Stopped School Buses Continues to be an Issue
Illegal passing of school buses was a huge problem during the last school year, and deputies are out this week as school starts again, looking for violaters. WCHS TV says deputies rarely see the illegal passing and they rely on bus drivers, who often see it first hand. Some drivers say they see illegal passing while the bus is stopped every day. A new law, just implemented in July, now fines the drivers who pass stopped school buses. For a first-time offense, drivers face a $500 fine, six months of jail time and a license suspension of 30 days.
