Perdue, Warner, and Mooney Win
John Perdue has won his sixth term as West Virginia treasurer. The Democrat held off a challenge from Republican Charleston bank lender Ann Urling and is West Virginia’s longest-serving state treasurer. He was first elected in 1996.
Morgantown Republican Mac Warner has defeated incumbent Natalie Tennant in the West Virginia secretary of state’s race. Warner is a retired military attorney, veteran and former U.S. State Department contractor in Afghanistan. On Tuesday night he outlasted Tennant, who was seeking her third term.
Republican Congressman Alex Mooney has been re-elected in West Virginia’s 2nd District over Democrat Mark Hunt. Mooney was first elected in 2014 after moving from Maryland to Charles Town, and is a former analyst for the House Republican Conference. The district stretches from Charleston to the Eastern Panhandle. Mooney is a former Maryland state senator and Maryland Republican Party chairman. He won the West Virginia seat in the House when incumbent Republican Shelley Moore Capito won the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Sen. Jay Rockefeller’s retirement.
