Republican Lawmakers Maintain Control in West Virginia
Republicans will continue holding the majority in the West Virginia Senate and House of Delegates. In the state senate, the GOP had a slim 18-16 majority over Democrats entering election night, and fended off enough challenges to stay in power. For the House, the GOP entered election night with a 64-36 majority over Democrats and sealed enough seats to continue controlling the chamber. After the 2014 election, the GOP took control of the House and Senate from Democrats for the first time in more than eight decades. Republicans were boosted atop the ballot by Donald Trump’s strong support in the state. All 100 House seats were on the ballot.
