Secretary Tennant Reminds Voters To Watch for Problems
Today is election day, but more than 220,000 West Virginians already have their ballots turned in. Secretary of State Natalie E. Tennant says, with all 55 counties reporting, 220,275 people voted during West Virginia’s 10-day early voting period. During the 2012 presidential general election, there were 150,666 early voters. In 2008, there were 153,096. There are 1,274,887 West Virginians eligible to vote in this election.
Secretary Tennant wants everyone to know their voting rights and remember to immediately contact a poll worker, their county clerk or the Secretary of State’s Office if they feel those rights have been violated or if they believe they have witnessed an election law violation. The Secretary of State’s Office will have dozens of liaisons dispatched across West Virginia today, moving from precinct to precinct and county to county, speaking with poll workers, providing status updates and monitoring for any election law violations. This is the same comprehensive plan used by the Secretary of State’s Office since the 2010 Primary. Polls will be open today from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
