Spike in Crime Concerns Police

A spike in crime in the Kanawha City area of Charleston has some neighbors on high alert.

From break-ins, to violent crimes and now a rise in prostitution complaints — police and neighbors are paying close attention to what’s happening in the area.

Lt. Steve Cooper, Chief of Detectives with the Charleston Police Department said there has been an increase in crime in the area over the last year.

Cooper says the department is putting extra patrols in the area and also noted that they are working on several new “strategies” but didn’t want to give too many details about those away.
