Spill Settlement is Approved
A federal judge approves the settlement in the chemical spill lawsuit. U.S. Judge John Copenhaver approved the settlement Monday, stemming back to the 2014 chemical spill that tainted drinking water. The settlement totals $151 million, and calls for $25 million from Eastman Chemical and $126 million from West Virginia American Water. The deal included a $4 million rate waiver. WCHS TV reports West Virginia American Water agreed not to file to try to recoup the settlement costs. The process has yet to be determined, but the money will be distributed to affected residents and businesses through an application process.
