Turnpike Traffic is Up Over Holiday Weekend
The numbers are in, and more people traveled the West Virginia Turnpike this Memorial Day weekend than last year. During the travel period from Thursday until Sunday, there were more than 618-thousand toll plaza transactions – an increase of more than five percent from last year. The busiest days for travel were Friday southbound from noon until 5 p.m. and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday going northbound. Year-to-date traffic on the 88-mile toll road from Charleston to Princeton has been up over last year nearly four percent, according to the director.
