Watch Out for a Texting Scam
Not all text messages are legit. The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office got word of a scam from a number that appears to be from your cell phone service provider. It says there’s a security issue with your account or address, and asks you to click a link, then provide security codes for a credit card, and your social security number. That personal information is used to lock the cell phone and the accounts, while credit card charges are made, and other damage is done to the victim’s finances. If you’ve been the victim of this scam, or have information about the suspects, call the sheriff’s office at 304-357-0169.
