Woman struck by train
A woman is in critical condition after she was struck by a train while crossing railroad tracks in the Jefferson community. According to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, they got word of the emergency from CSX dispatchers between 11 p.m. and midnight on Sunday after an engineer reported his train had struck a pedestrian.
Michelle Williams of South Charleston was taken by ambulance to the Charleston Area Medical Center. Deputies are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident. They say the train’s horn was working properly, and there were no obvious mechanical or engineer problems.
