Jobless Rate is Above National Average
West Virginia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose slightly in August to 7.6 percent, up one-tenth of a percentage point fromJuly. Workforce West Virginia says 59,800 state residents were unemployed, an increase of 700 from July. The service-providing sector, and educational and health services saw gains, while there were job losses in the goods-producing sector and in manufacturing. The national unemployment rate is at 5.1 percent.
