Former Church Building Will Become a Cafe
The former St. John United Methodist Church on D Street in South Charleston is being converted into something new. It’s becoming a cafe that will help feed the hungry. The Gazette Mail says Cafe Appalachia will be a nonprofit restaurant and training program for low-income families. Owners are opening the cafe through Pollen8, a nonprofit organization that creates social programs for drug-impacted families. A coffee shop will open first, and then the planned restaurant with the hope that it will provide a public space for groups to meet.
