Governor Names New Arts Agency Director
Gov. Jim Justice appointed an acting secretary of the Department of Education and the Arts two days after he fired Gayle Manchin. W. Clayton Burch has been selected as the acting secretary effective Wednesday. He has been serving as associate state superintendent of schools. On Monday, the governor announced he had terminated Manchin’s employment hours after she issued a statement on a measure that would eliminate the Department of Education and the Arts. The governor has not announced on whether he will sign or veto the bill.
