Buck Season Numbers Are Up Substantially

The number of bucks killed during West Virginia’s recent firearm deer season rose 77 percent compared to the 2014 period. The Division of Natural Resources says more than 66,000 bucks were killed during the two-week season that ended Dec. 5. DNR wildlife resources chief Paul Johansen says favorable weather contributed to the increase. Buck kills increased in every DNR district. In western counties, the number of kills doubled compared to a year ago. Ritchie County had the most buck kills, followed by Preston, Lewis and Hampshire counties.
