West Virginia Interstate to Be Widened
West Virginia’s Department of Transportation has awarded a $49 million contract to widen part of a highway. Gov. Jim Justice’s office says the award of the contract to A.L.L. Construction Inc. to expand Interstate 81. The project will widen 3.6 miles of I-81 from four lanes to six. The Division of Highways has said it’ll help eliminate traffic congestion near Martinsburg. Construction is scheduled to start this fall and continue to 2020. The work is being funded by a constitutional amendment voters passed last year that gave the state Legislature authority to issue $1.6 billion in bonds over the next four years.
