Bluestone Dam
It’s the third largest lake in West Virginia, but was built for more than just a fun day on the water. The Bluestone Dam is designed to save lives, and The United States Army corps of Engineers missions, is to reduce risks from disasters. Severe flooding impacted West Virginia two weeks ago. The Greenbrier River flows into the New River just below the Bluestone Dam. Engineers were able to drastically reduce the flow on the New River before the flooded Greenbrier River dumped into the river basin. More than 4,500 square miles drain into Bluestone Dam. The Bluestone Dam alone has saved billions.
