There are some very encouraging numbers coming from the state’s transportation department. West Virginia ranks as the second lowest cost per mile. The national average is over 106-thousand dollars spent per mile, but West Virginia is getting it down for a little more than 36-thousand dollars per mile. The “Reason Foundation” study moved the Mountain State from 34th the previous year to 25th this year in highway performance and cost effectiveness.
