Coal Miners Protection Act

Lawmakers in Washington are introducing the “American Miners Protection Act,” which would protect the pensions of retired coal miners. The plan was announced yesterday and is being called a cost-saving approach to the crisis in America’s coalfields, which has led to more than 50 bankruptcies and thousands of layoffs. Democratic Senator Joe Manchin, Republican Shelley Moore Capito and Republican Representative David McKinley are among those supporting the measure.
