Debt Collector Settles Over Collection Practices

The state Attorney General’s office has obtained a $195,000 judgment against a Florida debt collection company and its owners. The office says that a recent order in Kanawha County Circuit Court found Simple Recovery Solutions LLC and owners Todd West and Alexander Simao in violation of the state’s Consumer Credit and Protection Act. The order prevents them from engaging in debt collection activities in West Virginia. The statement says the court found Simple Recovery called and sent letters to as many as 130 consumers trying to collect debts that did not exist. It says the company also was conducting business in West Virginia without being registered and bonded. The statement says neither the company nor its owners responded to a summons or appeared in court.
