Interchange May Be Named After Former Coach
Several West Virginia state senators want to name an Interstate 79 exit in honor of late West Virginia University football coach Bill Stewart. The resolution would request that the state Division of Highways name Exit 153 in Monongalia County the “Coach Bill Stewart Exit.” Stewart died of a heart attack in May 2012 at age 59. After head coach Rich Rodriguez left for Michigan at the end of the 2007 regular season, Stewart led the Mountaineers to a surprising Fiesta Bowl victory over Oklahoma in January 2008 and won the head coach’s job immediately afterward. He resigned in 2011.
