Internet Dispute Could Raise Prices
Frontier Communications has asked the West Virginia Public Service Commission to rule that Internet provider Citynet has no right to use Frontier’s network to expand broadband service to its customers. Frontier says it has no obligation to lease unused fiber-optic cable to its competitors if those companies use it to provide high-speed Internet to their customers. But Citynet says Frontier has misinterpreted the FCC order and it should be allowed to lease Frontier’s extra fiber. The Gazette-Mail reports the dispute could affect Internet prices and service in West Virginia.
