Mistrial Declared in Summers Co. Embezzlement Case
A former Summers County commissioner’s embezzlement trial ended in a mistrial after the jury couldn’t reach a verdict. Summers County Circuit Court Judge Robert A. Burns declared the mistrial and scheduled an Oct. 16 hearing to discuss how to move the case forward. Jerry E. Berry is charged with embezzling more than $10,000 from the county. Prosecutors say the money was intended for the county’s convention and visitor bureau. Berry’s attorney says his client did use the money to promote tourism in the county.
