Resorts Prep for Ski Season
West Virginia’s four major ski resorts plan to open their slopes for the winter within the next month. West Virginia Ski Areas Association spokesman Joe Stevens says Snowshoe Mountain in Pocahontas County will have its scheduled opening on Nov. 25, the day before Thanksgiving. He says depending on the arrival of cold weather, openings also are planned Dec. 11 at Timberline and Dec. 12 or 13 at Winterplace. Canaan Valley plans a Dec. 18 opening of its slopes. If the weather cooperates, the resort in Davis plans to open its tubing park and covered outdoor ice skating rink on the day after Thanksgiving. The state’s ski and snowboard season typically runs through early April.
