Some Lawmakers Try to Stop Common Core
Berkley County Del Mike Folk is asking the state Supreme Court if West Virginia can legally participate in the Common Core educational standards, as state GOP leaders look to repeal them. The Charleston Gazette-Mail says his petition contends the standards violate state law and the U.S. Constitution, which requires congressional approval of agreements between states. Also this week, Senate President Bill Cole and House Speaker Tim Armstead wrote the National Governors Association to keep them from participating in Common Core among states.
