Union to Vote on Deal This Week to Avoid Strike
The United Steelworkers of America and the Mardi Gras Casino and Resort cut a deal to avert a strike. The two sides met Tuesday and appear to have come to an agreement. Union members had rejected the resort’s insurance offer during negotiations and authorized a strike, after negotiating for several weeks. Employees insurance premiums had been the big issue and it’s expected with the new deal, workers will pay about a dollar a day more for health insurance. The union has scheduled a vote on the tentative deal on Friday.
