Vacant Homes Continue to be an Issue
Charleston city leaders know that vacant homes, especially on the city’s West Side, are an eyesore. Sometimes the owners have moved away, even out of state, and left the properties with boarded up windows and in a state of disrepair. Building inspectors are continuously in touch with the home owners trying to get them to keep them up or have them torn down. There is a registry that keeps track of vacant homes across the city, and there are about 400 registered as vacant now. If there’s a nuisance home in your neighborhood, you can check the registry to see if it’s listed.
