WV Fire depts
West Virginia fire departments are concerned about dwindling resources during fire season after 37 foresters were laid off this summer. The layoffs mean fewer workers to fight brush and forest fires during burn season. Volunteer fire departments are working to compensate for the cuts. Foresters are often needed to fight brush fires because they have the necessary equipment such as bulldozers. With fewer foresters, fire departments will have a more difficult time responding to brush fires. The state is planning on using the National Guard and Division of Corrections for backup services.
